Seeing vitamin C discussed with an addiction treatment center might seem bizarre, but at Health Recovery Center the use of vitamin C in the treatment of addictions is the cornerstone of their 35 year-old program. Dr Joan Mathews-Larson (founder of the first orthomolecular program for alcoholism) is a pioneer in applying the wondrous virtues of vitamin C for alcoholism and drug addiction treatment. She calls it the most important vitamin of them all, and when you learn more about it, it’s difficult to disagree.
This essential chemical for life was not available as a supplement 100 years ago. We have Albert Szent-Györgyi to thank for that. Dr. Szent-Györgyi’s contributions to biological science gave the world a much deeper understanding of how life works. He laid the groundwork for submolecular biology, helping to explain cellular respiration, how muscles function, and the critical importance of vitamin C in supporting life. Most people only know vitamin C as the vitamin you take when you have a cold, or the vitamin that prevents scurvy, but its significance extends far beyond that.
Vitamin C Is Involved In Bringing Matter To Life
Vitamin C possesses a strong reducing action that supports the molecular stability necessary for life to exist. Life forms (you and me) are built with many proteins that incorporate structures for supporting desaturation (the removal of electrons) based on ancient submolecular pathways. A primary intermediate needed to maintain this process of desaturation is Vitamin C. In fact, without vitamin C, life would be impossible; Nature uses it to maintain a cellular balance of hydrogen and oxygen. This is one of the most important, and overlooked functions of ascorbic acid in supporting life. Or, if all that sounds too technical, consider the words of Dr. Szent-Györgyi, “Oxygen brings the life-giving light into the living system, Ascorbic acid catalyses this reaction. It (vitamin C) is involved in bringing matter to life.”
Vitamin C Kills Cancer Cells Without Harming The Host
Although orthomolecular physicians know about the importance of vitamin C and its potential to improve lives in all areas of the healthcare industry, pharmaceutical companies and powerful medical lobbyists do their best to discourage this knowledge from coming to light. One area vitamin C has great potential to improve health is in the treatment of cancer. Think about it. Cancer cells thrive in a distorted hyper-acidic environment, and vitamin C is what the body needs to maintain proper pH balance (the cellular balance of hydrogen and oxygen).
Vitamin C is the chemotherapeutic agent cancer patients have been searching for; it kills cancer cells without harming the host. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on whose side you’re on), vitamin C, just like water or oxygen, cannot be patented. So it behooves Big Pharma to keep a lid on the vitamin C miracle, and encourage people to dress up in pink jumpsuits to go running for the cure instead. I submit, what people are really running for (unknowingly) is to raise money to suppress the answer for the cure so pharmaceutical companies can continue with their campaign of death.
Now mind you, that is only one example of vitamin C’s potential; there are many more. The archived work of Dr. Fred Klenner in the 1940s is filled with examples of life-saving applications using the power of vitamin C. The reason people don’t realize the potential of Vitamin C, even though it’s readily available, is because it needs to be administered in mega doses that can only be achieved intravenously. Taking Vitamin C orally cannot push up blood levels high enough to knock out the nastiest bugs and diseases because ingesting too much vitamin C overwhelms what the digestive track can absorb; this causes bowel-tolerance (diarrhea). So when people ask what is the ideal amount of vitamin C to take each day, there is no one right answer, it depends on the person and the conditions acting on their state of wellbeing.
In the treatment of addictions, the state of wellbeing is usually very low; therefore, the ideal amount of Vitamin C needed is very high. However, most treatment programs only focus on psychological aberrations, or spiritual discontent, never connecting these problems to their true source— biochemical imbalances (shortages of key chemicals) acting on the brain. Why addiction counselors think talking to a sick brain, without administering any biochemical repair, will help their clients get well is a mystery beyond understanding. Perhaps it’s ego, but you’d think after decades of failures, relapses, suicides, and burnout, the treatment industry might take a look at the work of Joan Mathews-Larson and her success at treating addictions with vitamin C, but they don’t. They’d rather use poison psychiatric drugs, I guess.
Again, as I see it, the healthcare (read disease-care) industry doesn’t want to promote orthomolecular solutions to solve the maladies of our time. Insurance companies and the government work to promote ignorance, and protect the interests (profits) of the pharmaceutical industry. So if you’re feeling patriotic, you can hand your treasure and your life over to the government, but if you want your life, your health, and your happiness you’ve got Health Recovery Center.
