Depression is a pervasive problem in the modern world, and there are vast reasons for it. Certainly, situational experiences may bring on depression: the loss of a loved one, or a job, or any one of a thousand little let-downs life hands you. But that’s life, you get over it, and the good times roll again.
However, when depression sets in and lingers with no clear reason, that’s different, that’s a biochemical issue, not the kind of depression resolved with time. The word “biochemical” may put-off people today, conjuring up visions of psychiatrists with all their mind-altering pills.
Drugs Only Mask the Symptoms of Depression
The public has been bombarded with so much propaganda from the pharmaceutical industry that many believe the only solution for depression is a mind altering drug. Heck, if they really worked, we’d be the happiest country in the world. But that’s not what I see, in spite of living in the country that takes the most drugs in the world.
Nevertheless, the biochemistry holds the answer for resolving severe ongoing depression but the question is how…
How is a Biochemical-Based Depression Repaired?
Before you bring this question to your doctor be forewarned, there’s a good chance he’ll get out the prescription pad and send you on your way, and he’ll do it without running one lab test to determine what the cause of your depression is.
This is because doctors aren’t taught to look for “cause,” they only match drugs to symptoms. Doctors can’t actually guide you in repairing a biochemical depression because they are not trained in orthomolecular medicine.
“Orthomolecular medicine is not the answer to any question posed in medical school.”
-Dr. Hugh Riordan
Working at an orthomolecular-based clinic that runs lab tests to determine the underlying cause, I have seen how depression stems from many biochemical anomalies. Most can be corrected using natural chemicals that support the blueprint of life (no toxic drugs needed).
Here are some possibilities:
- Neurotransmitter depletion
- Hypothyroidism/Hashimoto’s disease
- Hormonal imbalances
- Cerebral allergies
- Vitamin B deficiencies (any one of which could bring on insanity)
- Mineral Deficiencies
- Essential Fatty Acid imbalances
- Chemical sensitivities
- Systemic buildup of candida mold/yeast in the brain
- Hypoglycemia (loss of the brain’s primary fuel, glucose)
- Build up of toxic metals in the brain (cadmium, lead, mercury, manganese, etc.)
- Abnormally elevated levels of histamine in the brain
Many of these issues are discussed at length in Dr. Joan Mathews-Larson’s classic book, Depression Free, Naturally.
No doctor can make a determination of what biochemical imbalances are responsible for a person’s depression without first doing a prescreen and then following it up with lab tests to verify their data. Yet many doctors forgo logic and go straight to the prescription pad.
Unfortunately many people struggling with severe depression first try their doctor’s pills before they consider Nature’s pharmacy. Drugs only exacerbate the imbalances that cause depression.
The short-term relief they provide is a fool’s bargain for the compounded misery they bring on later. The answer is and always has been Orthomolecular Medicine.
Good health to you.
