FAQs:
Is the HRC program Inpatient or Outpatient and does it offer housing assistance?
Health Recovery Center is licensed by the State of Minnesota as an Intensive Outpatient Treatment Center. We do not keep clients confined in our facility, nor do we supply meals. We provide a bio-medical program with a strong teaching component to help clients rebuild their health and regain control of their life. Our unique outpatient structure provides an ideal autonomous setting for clients to begin managing their lives appropriately for a healthy future, as they live in comfortably furnished, one-bedroom apartments within walking distance of Health Recovery Center. The housing cost is $2,500 for six weeks. If additional days beyond the six weeks are needed, individual days may be added at a pro-rated cost of $60.00 per day. Other housing options may also be available. Check with the HRC business office for more info.
How much does the program cost?
The cost of HRC’s program is $15,000. This includes multiple sessions with the doctor; a variety of lab tests; IM shots; propriety IVs; individual sessions with a bio-counselor; individual sessions with mental health counselor; biochemical teaching, mental health groups; lectures, films, and family groups.
Are there additional expenses beyond the cost of the program?
Nutritional supplements are an important component to facilitate biochemical repair in the HRC program. A generous supply is provided to all clients when they start the program. However, clients’ will need to purchase more supplements as their program progresses, and lab work comes in. The cost for supplements to carry a client through the six-week program may vary between $600-$800 depending on individual client needs. In addition, food, and basic day-to-day needs are also the clients’ responsibility. These costs can vary significantly depending on budgets and lifestyle preferences.
What is the length of stay for the program?
HRC’s treatment program is structured to fill an intensive six-weeks (36 days). Clients find the time passes quickly. Repairing the brain and establishing biochemical balance provides a long list of things to do in a short (busy) amount of time. Some lab tests need time to prepare for, and cannot be combined with other tests during the same week. The speed of services from our trusted labs will vary depending on the type of test. Each week educational groups, films, lectures, and one-to-one sessions with the counselors provide important information clients’ need, to better understand and appreciate their unique biochemical needs. Learning how to maintain an ongoing stable future is a tall order, but for most, six weeks is adequate to prepare for the new life we want our clients to have. We understand the investment of time and money is substantial; our concern is for wellness, and we do not compromise on what it takes to be successful. Complications, such as weaning off psychiatric drugs, may require additional time to stabilize some clients. These matters are determined on an individual basis.
Is it necessary to have someone stay with a client when they go through the program?
This question is determined on an individual basis. Because some of our clients are very sick, they often require assistance to effectively progress through our program.
Does Health Recovery Center treat mental health problems not associated with addictions (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, depression, anxiety, etc.)?
Yes, HRC successfully treats many clients with such disorders.
Are there programs similar to HRC closer to where I live?
When Health Recovery Center got started over thirty years ago, it was the only program of its kind in the country. Since then, a growing awareness of the need to repair addiction’s physical damage has spawned more holistic-minded programs. But the term “holistic” does not mean orthomolecular. Some holistic programs have even been combined with dual-diagnosis programs (i.e., one that prescribes psychiatric drugs), whereas an orthomolecular-based (non-drug) program uses the real substances that duplicate nature. As such, HRC has always been the leader. For more than 30 years we’ve strived to develop the best program in the country. Is it worth it? … You bet, and our clients concur. Look for their evaluations on our Facebook page of testimonials.
Why is the HRC model only found in Minneapolis, Minnesota?
It’s because this is where Joan Mathews-Larson lives. She developed the orthomolecular model for treatment in response to the failure of the treatment industry to stabilize her son. His suicide shortly after completing a traditional 12-step program drove her to search for a better way to treat alcoholics and addicts using biochemical interventions to address the underlying PHYSICAL triggers to addiction. She shares her knowledge in her bestselling book 7 Weeks to Sobriety (Random House). Most treatment approaches for addictions and mental health problems focus only on symptoms and psychological aberrations, rather than correcting their underlying physical causes. Health Recovery Center has set the bar for orthomolecular treatment of addictions using many methods not yet taught in schools or available in other programs. Our outstanding success rates prove it … www.healthrecovery.com/addictions/long-term-impact. For those who want the HRC experience, but can’t come to Minneapolis for six weeks, we suggest using the books written by Joan Mathews-Larson (Seven Weeks to Sobriety and Depression Free Naturally) in conjunction with a competent holistic/naturopathic doctor. Your best bet to find a holistic doctor in your area is to look at http://orthomolecular.org, www.naturopathic.org, www.ahha.org, or www.acam.org.
Does Health Recovery Center promote AA in its program?
The 12 Steps of AA conflict with 21st century scientific concepts. For example, step one and step two state, “We admitted we were powerless over alcohol …”, and “Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.” HRC does not teach clients they are powerless; in fact, just the opposite, we empower clients with the knowledge they need to regain their health and enjoy a chemical-free future. HRC does not instruct clients to pray to a power “greater than themselves” to save them. We provide our clients with the tools they need to control their own journey to health. This makes more sense as a path our Creator intended for us to follow to get well. Finally, many of the lifestyle changes HRC promotes to restore wellbeing are damaged in the toxic environments (smoking, caffeine, sugar/junk food) characteristic of many AA meetings. However, we do support freedom, so if a client wishes to partake in AA meetings we will help them to find one.
